Search Engine Basics and Methods

Learn some of the keys to Proper SEO

The fundamental building blocks of search engine friendly pages really comes down to 2 main things: Content and Titles. Yes there are many other areas of course (links, tags etc.) but without real text based content and proper titles, the other areas of your SEO efforts will simply not work much for you. Exchanging links with another site while your content is weak or in bad format will not make up for those core search engine optimization building blocks.

Content

Real Text vs. Image

The content is html text (not images) written out on the website. You can always tell if the text is plain or an illusion of text content (images). You simply paste your mouse over the content on the site itself and if you are able to scroll over it and copy it, then it is actual text content and that is what an optimized site needs.

A website will not rank well if does not have true and real content. There is too much competition out there from sites with better depth and better SEO methods than the other 90% of sites in that industry (your industry too). Whether you seem help to fully optimize your site or if you consider getting some key help such as our Full Virtual Search Engine Help Analysis, getting real basic content depth correct is vital.

Links

Links are internal and external. Internal links connect your website to itself. The navigation of the site is connected by these links. They should be titles properly and your most important pages on the site should have the most internal links connected to it. External links are the ones coming from outside of your site. Both are are important to online marketing of your website. They must be crafted and written out correctly to be the most effective.

Titles

"titles" mean several things. HTML Titles, Header Titles, and Link Titles. Using these effectively can be the best thing you can do for your site and one area I really lock into for my sites and my client sites. If the content is written out correctly and the other aspects of SEO basics are in place, the right titles can really bring it all together.

HTML Browser Titles

One of the first things I notice on a site that I am asked to help on is the weak or almost non existance of proper HTML Browser Titles.  These page descriptions should be strategically targeted to the page and message you are trying to attract. The keywords that the page is looking attract can get lost with poor html titles. Overdoing keywords in the html title is also a no-no as Google and other search engines will penalize the page for keyword stuffing.

Short or Long HTML titles?

There is no one answer. We have pages on our sites that have browser titles with 12-15 words and other pages where we only have 4 or 5. Phrasing and using keywords, while not spammy or overdoing it. There are proven techniques that we use. We create a flow from the html browser title, to the header title and into the text. SEO is maximized by having several ingredients flowing together.
